USA Softball of Northern California has exciting news!!

We would like to introduce Nick Schapiro as our new Northern California JO Commissioner!

As Manuel Gomez our current Nor Cal JO Commissioner is retiring, Nick will be filling his role. Manuel will be still around for the next few months helping Nick transition. We would like to express our gratitude to Manuel for the 22 years of service and devotion to USA Softball! A retirement that is well deserved! And I am sure Manuel will still always be around to help us where needed.

Who is Nick? Here is a little Bio of what he has been doing for the softball world:

Nick brings over 30 years of softball experience with him starting at the age of 16 playing for and then ultimately coaching a men’s slow pitch team. Then 10 years ago he began to coach his daughters in Fastpitch at San Ramon Valley Girls Athletic League (SRVGAL) located in Northern California.  In his second year he was offered a position as division coordinator and from there went on to be the Commissioner and then President for the last four years. Being a very hands President of one of the largest leagues in the country, averaging over 800 girls every spring, he’s been immersed in every aspect of the game from rules and working closely with UICs, scheduling over 1000 games every season, field maintenance and modernizing equipment to tournament directing. 

During Covid Nick and his Commissioner Chris King cowrote the return to play rules for Contra Costa County which were adopted throughout Northern California for most sports leagues and municipalities.  He’s successfully coached at all levels of league and travel ball and has worked closely with other organizations such as Triple Crown, Alliance and PGF.  

Nick realizes that Covid brought on a dramatic shift to the business of girl’s fast pitch softball and the key to USA Softball’s success over the next five years is to understand how to interpret and build upon these changes going forward.
